On 14 September, Ethiopia announced that the government has introduced the first 200 Birr note and replaced 10, 50, and 100 Birr notes with new ones. The existing birr 5 note will remain unchanged at this moment, but it will be replaced by a coin in the near future.
The new and old notes will remain in circulation for three months. Thereafter (from December), the old 10, 50, and 100 banknotes will be canceled.
